July 17, 2013, (ISN) – Here in Havana we are dodging the heat and I am going out on my bike between 7 and 8 in the morning doing my 50k ride out to Baracoa with a cappuccino stop at Cafe Ven at around the 40k mark.
If I leave it until later is very difficult to get motivated, the heat is easy to resist and heading back into the building is my usual choice It is funny because once I am out there and if I do a longer ride the heat doesn’t bother me so much. I think the moving and drinking lots of water is all that is really need.
Come November this heat will have waned and we will be back to great cycling here in the beautiful cycle paradise called Cuba.
Open events to consider this coming fall, by date are:-
November 2nd through Friday November 8th. 4 Day Cyclo Sportif This is for sportif riders, the last day is a little long but very flat.
November 9th. to 23rd Fat Mary’s Tailwind Ride is a great party ride,This has become my favourite ride and offers a great look at Cuba in the raw
After Christmas we have Ciclo Temba, in the east this year, followed by the TRANS CUBA End 2 End in mid February. March sees another edition of Fat May. Please check the website for more details :- www.CanBiCuba.com
On the competition side we are hosting a masters week here in Havana with events for all over the age of 35, both ladies and gents events on the road and on the track.
Our charity work with the home for the disabled in Havana is taking a nice step forward. I am please to tell you that we will begin shortly to renovate the home’s kitchen. This is our first project on the building, using monies donated by Canadian and American cyclists. It is my hope to have a progress report and some photos by the end of August.
