July 26, 2013, Central Saanich, BC (ISN) – The Boulders Climbing Gym is pleased to announce that climber Alison Stewart-Patterson and coach Kimanda Jarzebiak are heading to Cali, Colombia on July 30 to represent Canada in the World Games over the August 3-4 weekend. Stewart-Patterson and Jarzebiak are being joined by Vancouver native and current overall men’s world champion Sean McColl.
In Colombia, Stewart-Patterson will be competing in the speed climbing category, while McColl will be competing in the lead/difficulty climbing category.
The International World Games, first held in 1981, are an international multi-sport event, meant for sports, or disciplines or events within a sport, that are not contested in the Olympic Games. The World Games are organised and governed by the International World Games Association (IWGA), under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This year’s event in Cali, Colombia begins on July 25th and ends on August 4th, with competition in over 35 different sports taking place.
Stewart-Patterson is from Kamloops, BC and now lives in Victoria and trains at The Boulders. She is the number one ranked female speed climber in the country, and is coming off first place finishes in both speed and difficulty at the BC provincials, a first place finish in difficulty at the Western Regionals and a first place finish in speed at the Nationals. Alison has represented Canada at a number of international events, including the Briancon, France stage of the Lead World Cup in 2012 and will be competing for Canada at the 2013 World Youth Championships at The Boulders in August.

Born in Vancouver, McColl is the reigning overall men’s world champion and a former three-time world junior champion in the lead climbing category and two-time world junior champion in the speed climbing category. He lives and trains in France, and is an assistant coach of the Canadian National Youth Team. He will be in attendance with the team at the World Youth Championships at The Boulders in August.

The Boulders Climbing Gym is a not-for-profit society, with the mandate of making climbing accessible for everyone, regardless of ability or ability to pay.
