July 29, 2013, Burnaby, BC (ISN) – The Simon Fraser University Men’s Ice Hockey team is pleased to announce that Penticton’s Chris Kerr has committed to join the team for the 2013/14 season.
Kerr spent the past two seasons with the Wenatchee Wild of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), putting up an 98 points in 119 games. Prior to that, Kerr played two seasons in the BCHL with the Quesnel Millionaires, notching 32 points in 114 games.
“Chris is a proven goal scorer at the Junior A level, and he’s going to be looked at to fill a void on our team after losing Ben Van Lare and Chris Hoe,” says SFU Head Coach Mark Coletta. “He has all the tools to be a great player in the BCIHL, and we’re going to demand a lot from Chris.”
Kerr’s route to the BCIHL is not unlike fellow recruit Mike Sandor, whose exposure in the NAHL, an American Junior hockey league, has led the forward to the college game.
“It’s a great school with a really good team, I’m excited to get my education started and continue playing hockey,” says Kerr about committing to SFU. The speedy forward says he is “looking to excel in classes and get comfortable in school as well as contribute to the team in any way I can.”
