July 29, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – HarbourCats Head Coach Dennis Rogers always stresses the fact that a game is never over until the final out is in the book, and the Corvallis Knights used a 3-run 9th to knock off Victoria, 4-2, on Sunday.

The HarbourCats got on the board in the 1st with an RBI single from Alex DeGoti to give Bryan Conant some early run support. The Knights got a run of their own in the 3rd, but Victoria answered right back with another RBI single from DeGoti to make it a 2-1 lead.

That lead would hold for a majority of the game, as Bryan Conant and Corvallis starter Jacob Schroeder got locked in a pitcher’s duel. At 105 pitches through 8, Conant was pulled for closer Ryan Keller, who would go on to surrender 3 runs in the 9th, including a pair of RBI doubles from Cody Lenahan and Kevin Kline. The Knights also benefitted from a dropped fly ball in right field by Brett Urabe that brought in the insurance run.

Schroeder attempted to finish off his complete game in the 9th, but like Casey Bloomquist last night, fell 1 out short of the complete game. Alex DeGoti led off the 9th with a double, finishing 4-4 on the day. After a bloop single and a walk, Victoria had the bases loaded with 2 outs, but pinch hitter Austin Russell bounced out to end the game and give Corvallis the series win.

The HarbourCats lost for the fourth consecutive time, but this was the first time in their last 7 losses that they have scored more than 1 run. They’ll look to avoid the sweep tomorrow night at 7:05 PM as Tyler Rowe gets the start, making his first appearance in a Victoria uniform.
