July 30, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Camosun College Chargers emerge this season with an exciting new look and special home-coming festivities as they celebrate 20 years in college athletics, September 27-28.
Chargers’ first-ever Athletic Scholarship and Hall of Fame Dinner – September 27 (5:30-9:00pm) at Laurel Point Inn – a fundraiser for student-athlete scholarships and “Hall of Fame” recognition ceremony.
· Chargers’ 20th Anniversary Alumni Celebration – September 28 at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence – a chance for past players, coaches, student-athletes and long-time supporters to gather and enjoy the highlights of the past 20 years and officially unveil the new Chargers logo and mascot!
The 2013 Athletic Scholarship and Hall of Fame Dinner marks the first of its kind for the Chargers who will be raising funds for student-athlete scholarships and paying tribute to their stand-out students and alum. Founded this year, the Chargers Hall of Fame honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the Chargers Athletics program as a student-athlete, coach, as a team or as a builder or program supporter within the community. Recipients of the 2012-13 CCAA National Scholar award will also be recognized at the dinner.
“In addition to supporting scholarships, we hope to provide guests at the event with the opportunity to meet, learn about and be inspired by people who are new to the program as well as those who have been with us throughout the years,” comments Graham Matthews, Camosun Recreation and Athletics Coordinator. “The induction of our inaugural members into the Hall of Fame will be a pivotal moment in Chargers history!”
Tickets are $150 each or $1,000 for a table of 8. Those interested in attending the event are asked to purchase their tickets in advance by sending a completed ticket order form.
On Saturday, September 28, special guests including Chargers alum and long-time supporters from across the continent will gather to celebrate the Chargers’ 20th Anniversary.
“We’re very excited to be hosting this event and seeing some familiar faces,” states Matthews. “The Chargers have made great strides over the span of 20 years and hundreds of people are connected to our success. We hope to provide this very special group of people with the rare opportunity to reconnect with friends, relive some great memories, recognize past successes and help us reveal a new look as we charge into the future.”
The Chargers basketball teams will begin the festivities with their Annual Alumni games; the women tip-off at 4pm and the men hit the boards at 6pm (volleyball alum matches are to be confirmed). While former Chargers can reserve a spot on the alum roster, all attendees are encouraged to pack the stands and cheer on their favorite team.
Between the Alumni games, the Chargers 20th Anniversary Reception will commence at 7pm where guests can meet with friends over refreshments, view exhibits of the Chargers in action over the past 20 years and take part in the official unveiling of the new Chargers logo and mascot. See the 20th Anniversary Alum Invitation for more details and how to RSVP.
The Camosun golf team also swings into action over home-coming weekend as the team kicks-off the Chargers’ competitive season on September 28-29 at Bear Mountain hosting the third of four PACWEST conference series tournaments.
