July 30, 2013, Saskatoon, SK (ISN) – Huskie striker Bret Levis has turned heads all year long in his first season with the Victoria Highlanders FC and on Tuesday, was named to the Premier Development League’s Western Conference All-Conference Team.
Levis starred in his first season in the 64-team league notching 22 points in 14 games to finish tied for eighth in scoring.
After leading his team in scoring in the regular season, Levis has continued to put the ball in the back of the net in the playoffs. Levis scored the lone goal in the Western Conference Championship against Northwest Division rival Portland Timbers U-23 to lead the Highlanders to the conference title on Sunday.
Sunday’s win was the club’s second of the weekend playoff trip after taking down the Ventura County Fusion 3-2 in the conference semifinals Saturday night. Levis scored midway through the second half to tie the match at two before scoring the game winner six minutes into extra time to send the Highlanders to the conference championship.
The Highlanders will now travel to Austin, Texas for the 2013 PDL Championship presented by Nike. The fourth seeded Highlanders will take on the No. 1 ranked Thunder Bay Chill Friday evening. The winner will advance to the final on Sunday to take on the winner of the Austin Aztex and Ocean City Nor’easters.
The University of Saskatchewan striker finished his sophomore season in the Canada West conference second in scoring with 15 points in 14 games. Levis will return to the Huskies from Victoria in time for the 2013-14 season.
The Huskie men’s soccer team opens their Canada West schedule at home on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park August 21, against the Winnipeg Wesmen.
