August 7, 2013, Calgary, AB (ISN) – The top two teams so far in the 2013 season go head to head on Friday as the Calgary Stampeders play host to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Kickoff at McMahon Stadium is at 7 p.m.
The Roughriders (5-0) are the CFL’s last remaining unbeaten team while the Stamps (4-1) are hot on their heels in the West Division. Saskatchewan (183 points) and Calgary (162) boast the league’s most potent offences this season.
Both teams remained hot in Week 5 despite injuries to veteran quarterbacks. With Drew Tate and Kevin Glenn both sidelined, the Stamps were led to a 37-24 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by 23-year-old sophomore Bo Levi Mitchell. Calgary’s third consecutive win also saw kicker Rene Paredes break Paul McCallum’s record of 30 consecutive field-goal conversions.
Meanwhile, Drew Willy stepped in for Darian Durant and helped the Roughriders defeat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 32-20.
Both teams had Week 6 byes.
The longtime rivals met in Week 2 in Regina, with Calgary holding the advantage in the first half before Saskatchewan rallied for a 36-21 win.
Stamps supporters are encouraged to arrive early as the first 4,000 fans through the gates wearing red will receive a horn.
