August 6, 2013, VANCOUVER (ISN) – Over 1,000 athletes will be assembling at the University of British Columbia’s Wolfson Fields this week as the venue will play host to five straight days of National Championship rugby.
Junior provincial players from across the country will be contesting for U18, U16 and U14 titles in one of the nation’s most passionate rugby hotbeds. Saturday will also see the return of the BC Bears, the province’s senior men’s provincial program as they host the Prairie Wolf Pack in the 2013 Canadian Rugby Championship opener.
In total, hosts BC will be fielding nine junior teams as they look to defend national titles in the boys U14, U16 and U18 divisions. The hosts will also be looking to better a bronze-medal finish at last year’s U18 women’s nationals after missing out on the championship game. BC will also be fielding two teams in the inaugural U16 girls competition.
The Festival will once again serve as a platform for future rugby stars to showcase their talents in front of national selectors as Rugby Canada continues to develop the next generation of internationals.
