August 10, 2013, WINNIPEG (ISN) – Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of veteran infielder Yurendell de Caster.

De Caster, 33, returns to Winnipeg where he helped the Goldeyes win the American Association championship last season. In 71 games with Monclova of the Mexican League this season, the product of Curacao hit .342 with 10 home runs and 52 RBI.

“Yurendell is coming off a great season in the Mexican League and we are thrilled to be able to add a player of his quality to our lineup,” Forney said.

With Winnipeg in 2012, de Caster hit .327 with 10 home runs and 68 RBI in 89 games. He also had a seven-game stint in the Mexican League.

De Caster joins his cousin Kevin Moesquit on the Goldeyes roster.

Originally signed as a free agent by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1996, de Caster played in their system from 1998-2000 before joining the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played seven seasons in the Pirates organization and reached the Major Leagues for three games in 2006. He spent the 2008 campaign in the Washington Nationals system. He signed with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in 2009, but was signed by the New York Yankees 37 games into the season. He played the 2010 and 2011 seasons in the Mexican League with Reynosa.

The Goldeyes now have 21 players on their roster, including 10 pitchers and 11 position players.

Winnipeg continues a weekend series against the Sioux Falls Canaries. Game time is 6 p.m. tonight and 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Shaw Park.
