August 13, 2013, Saskatoon, SK (ISN) – Looking to build on a Canada West bronze medal in 2012, the University of Saskatchewan Huskie men’s soccer team opened training camp last weekend.

Training sessions began in the afternoon on August 9 and run at 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. from August 10 to 15. An intersquad match is scheduled in the afternoon of August 12. The Huskies will take a break on August 14 to mingle with alumni, fans and donors at the Ninth Annual Men’s Soccer Golf Tournament. The squad will take on the Huskie Alumni August 17.

“Training camp is an excellent opportunity to start building a collective group that is prepared to play in the always competitive Canada West Conference,” said head coach Bryce Chapman, who enters his tenth year at the helm of the Huskies. “We have a group of players that are extremely determined to get back into the playoffs and fight for a Canada West Championship.”

The Huskies will play two non-conference matches at the University of Alberta in a four team tournament featuring Alberta, NAIT and FC Edmonton Reserves. Matches will be played on August 23 and 24.

Saskatchewan will open their 2013 Canada West schedule at home against the Winnipeg Wesmen on August 31. Match time is 2:15 p.m. on Field 7 in PotashCorp Park.
