August 16, 2013, (ISN) – After a morning quarterfinal game against Nova Scotia, Megan and Nicole McNamara (Delta) were ready to take on Quebec in the semifinal at Beach Volleyball. In front of a large Quebec crowd, the girls went behind losing 16-21 in the first set but, then batted back in the second set to win 21-13.

Behind early in the third, they rebounded to pull out the win 15-13. Immediately after the game they were on speaker phone from the court with their Mom and Dad back in BC to share their excitement of the win.

Megan said, “I don’t even know how to describe it. This is the most satisfying win of our career.” “We have been training for this all summer and it is exactly what we hoped for.”

“We played two really solid games today,” Nicole added. The semi-final win against Quebec was so satisfying after losing to them in pool play. We made some adjustments, stayed mentally tough and managed to pull out a 15-13 win in the third! Now onto the finals to hopefully win another gold medal for BC.”

Ben Chow (Surrey) and Dan Caverly (Coquitlam) were also up against Quebec in their semi-final game. Taking a commanding lead they won the first set 21-9 and then continued to the second set taking it 21-17.

Following the game, Ben said, “Today was great! Dan and I felt very confident with the game plan our coach made for us. I felt we executed well and were in control the whole match. We can’t wait for our gold medal match against Ontario, and we’re feeling confident.”

Coach Kyra Iannone (Surey) was very pleased. “I’m very proud of my boys tonight. Quebec threw some new tactics at us and they handled things brilliantly. The wind was quite gusty, yet the boys stayed in control. Thank you for all the support today from the fencing team and Team BC Mission Staff…you made a difference!”

Team BC supporters including Rowing, Fencing and Mission Staff were out in force to take on the large Quebec crowd. With drums in hand the Team BC fencing team cheered on every point and provided an added boost. Both teams expressed their appreciation for the crowd support and being part of Team BC.

The men and women will both play against Ontario in the gold medal games taking place on Saturday. Tune in to TSN to watch the action at 11:45 (Women) and 1:00 (Men) Eastern Time.
