August 16, 2013 (ISN) – British Columbia won five of seven events on the first day of rowing finals on Lac Magog today. The west coast crews captured gold in the lightweight men’s four and men’s pair, and women’s pair, quad and eight.

Led by today’s double gold medalists Maxwell Lattimer and Cameron Howie (lightweight men’s four and men’s pair), and Hillary Janssens (women’s pair and women’s eight), BC’s rowers are well-placed to defeat perennial Canada Games rowing overall champions Ontario.

Ontario won the men’s quad, and took four silver and two bronze medals. New Brunswick’s Taylor Perry won the men’s single.

As has been the case all week, high winds made for challenging conditions today, with racing postponed on two occasions.

The seven remaining rowing finals will take place tomorrow.
