August 24, 2013, WINNIPEG (ISN) – Peru avoided a series sweep against Canada this evening as they claimed a 3-1 victory at the University of Manitoba Investors Group Athletic Centre. Sets scores were 25-20, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21 in favour of the visiting Peruvians.
Rafealla Camet of Peru led all scorers in the match with 16 points, while Lisa Barclay (Brandon, MB) led Canada with 15 points. Tabi Love (Dauphin, MB) had 15 points and Shanice Marcelle (Victoria, BC) contributed 13 points.
“Today’s game Peru was ready to play and we were not,” stated Canadian Head Coach Arnd Ludwig. “We were chasing the ball and we were one step late with passes and blocks, we were rarely in control of the game. It’s good though that the team still sees that they need to work hard and there are things we need to keep working on. Today was definitely not our best passing game and this is something we’ll have to work on, along with the connection between our setters and middles, as we look towards the NORCECA Championship next month.”
The Canadian Women’s National Team resumes training next week and will next play two matches against the University of Washington on September 6 & 7 in Seattle as a final preparation opportunity for the 2013 NORCECA Championship in Omaha, Nebraska, September 16-21.
