Beacon Drive In

Story and Photos by Kasey Eriksen (ISN)

August 24, 2013, Victoria, B.C. (ISN) – Who doesn’t like ice cream? And who doesn’t like Beacon Drive-in ice cream? No one I know, that’s for sure. On Saturday afternoon, the Beacon Drive-in restaurant celebrated ice cream in a big way.

It was their 55th Anniversary, if you can believe that. I remember going there for ice cream and a walk through Beacon Hill Park as a young child and years later I was bringing my own children along with me, but I’m sure my memories mimic many of yours. Although the ‘Beacon’ has grown ten-fold since then, it has only become more and more popular over the years, with more and more food to offer to its swarming customers.

And not only was ice cream on hand for the celebration, but all sorts of yummy food as well. Onion rings, hamburgers, chili cheese fries…even hot wings!

Tickles the Clown paid a visit, entertaining the folks who came to join in on the fun and she had her delightful and fun-filled songs to keep the children smiling, along with her amazing balloon creations that we all adore.

Ollie the octopus, Rocky the raccoon, and Marty the Marmot all came out to join in with the festivities, and once you had your balloon creation from Tickles the Clown, off in another area you could have your face painted too! If it was live miniature goats you were looking for, then those fun-loving animals were also on hand to accept a good petting and a stylish hair brushing by anyone who was up for the grooming challenge. All in all, everyone who wandered through the ‘Beacon’ on Saturday afternoon, was not disappointed and fun was had by all ages.
