CHICOUTIMI – The McGill University men’s golf team sit eighth of 12 schools after shooting a first round score of 310 in the UQAC tournament at the Chicoutimi Golf Club, Monday.

The Redmen were led by Montrealer Ryan Boyd with a three-over-par 75, followed by teammates Tom Calvet (78) of France, Brian Neill (79) and Michael Reaume (79), both natives of Ottawa, in addition to Ben Miquel   (79) of Houston, Tex.

“Although all five of our players each shot in the 70s, their combined total was a disappointment for the way they played from tee to green,” said McGill head coach Bob Dubeau. “Putting woes were the culprit on fast greens that were difficult to read.”

McGill plays the second and final round on Tuesday morning.

The host team from UQAC is the surprise leader after Day 1, edging Montreal and Laval for the top spot.

“With some solid play, we can easily jump four or five positions in the second round,” noted Dubeau.
