Victoria Cougars look sharp in preseason victory

August 28, 2013, ESQUIMALT, BC (ISN) – Mitch Maloney, Howard Howden, and Mark Walton netted a goal apiece to lift the Victoria Cougars to a 3-1 preseason win over the Nanaimo Buccaneers on Tuesday night.

Victoria, which led 2-0 after one period and 3-1 after two, outshot the Buccaneers 42-22.

David Marshall chipped in with a pair of assists while Liam Carradine and Jordan Marciniak each added singles.

Sharing the goaltending duties for the Cougars were Connor Beauchamp and Kyriakos Aniyatos. The duo of Ryan Waldhaus and Steven Ridley manned the net for Nanaimo.

Keelan Larson scored in a losing cause.

The Buccaneers pulled Ridley for an extra attacker with one minute and four seconds remaining in regulation to no avail.

Both teams went 0-for-2 with the man advantage.

The Cougars close out their preseason schedule against the Westshore Wolves on Sunday, September 1. Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 4:15 p.m.
