McGill medical student named by CFA to All-Canada football team

August 31, 2013, Montreal (ISN) – Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, a 22-year-old medical student with the McGill University Redmen, has been named to the College Football America CIS Preseason All-Canada team.

His senior campaign officially gets underway on Saturday when McGill travels to Quebec City to play Laval in a 7 p.m. start. The game will be webcast live in French at

After showcasing his skills at the 2013 CIS East-West Bowl last May, the 6-foot-5, 305-pound offensive lineman from St. Hilaire, Que., was listed by as an early favourite to be the top-ranked prospect in the 2014 Canadian Football League draft. To date, three teams from the National Football League have also expressed an interest and Duvernay-Tardif is considered a solid candidate to be selected in the NFL draft as well.

A CIS all-Canadian last season, he is one of eight players from the RSEQ conference to be named by College Football America. The OUA led all conferences in the CIS with a dozen players selected, while Canada West had four and the AUS merited three honorees.
