September 1, 2013, Penticton, BC (ISN) –The Penticton Vees finished off their BCHL pre-season schedule on a winning note, picking up a 4-1 decision over the visiting Salmon Arm Silverbacks Saturday at the SOEC.
The Vees closed-out their exhibition schedule without a loss, picking up three wins and two ties in five games.
Friday Salmon Arm grabbed the game’s first goal via the power-play; Saturday it was Penticton using the man-advantage to go ahead early. Captain Brad McClure opened the scoring just over six-minutes into the first when he tapped-in Ryan Gropp’s centering pass at 6:20. McClure drew the penalty after he was hit from behind along the wall.
The game took a scary turn midway through the frame, when Alex Coulombe was run through the end-wall from behind by the ‘Backs Jake Berezan. Coulombe stayed down for several moments before skating off the ice; he later returned in the second period. Berezan was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the scary hit.
Ben Dalpe responded in a positive matter, doubling the Vees lead just sixteen-seconds later. McClure busted down the left-wing before dropping it to Dalpe who squeezed his shot through the arm of Angus Redmond.
Harlan Orr brought the Silverbacks back within one before the period was out. On a the power-play, Orr had his shot from the top of the circles rattled off the post and past Hunter Miska at 18:46.
Chris Rygus restored the Vees two-goal lead early in the second period on a blast from the blue-line. Dalpe worked the puck back to Rygus who pumped a slap-shot up and over Redmond at 5:53.
Travis Blanleil chased Redmond from the Silverbacks net less than five minutes later.. Matt Serratore sprung Blanleil down the left-wing, who then snuck a shot past Redmond on the near-side at 10:22; Adam Clark took over in the ‘Backs net the rest of the way.

The Vees now are off until next Friday, September 6th, when they open the 2013-2014 BCHL regular season at the Bauer Showcase in Chilliwack against the Victoria Grizzlies; matinee affair set for 3pm.
