Fourth annual Thunder Fest kicks off Friday

September 3, 2013, VICTORIA, B.C. – Vikes Athletics and Recreation are pleased to host the fourth annual Thunder Fest from noon to 4:30 p.m. outside the University of Victoria Student Union Building this Friday, Sept. 6.

Thunder Fest is an opportunity for the UVic student body to kick off the varsity athletic season, gain information about campus and recreation opportunities and find out the many ways they can get involved on campus. The afternoon is intended for all students, staff and faculty members of the Ring Road campus community.

Thunder Fest will feature live bands on the roof of the SUB (North Tower, Isobel Trigger & The Wicks), live DJ’s spinning, giant inflatables, assorted games, and booth activations from departments all over campus including Academic Advising, Co-op and Career Services, Engineering, Fine Arts, Can Assist, UVic Bookstore, UVSS, CARSA,CFUV radio and several athletics and recreation activities.

In addition off-campus partners will be on site including Original Joes, The Zone, Scotia Bank, the Times Colonist, BC Dairy, Thrifty Foods, Skynet Wireless, Island Savings, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Shaw Communications, CIBC, Sitka, Canadian Cancer Society and more!

With over 35 different booths, games and activations it is the entire campus’ chance to get involved at the start of the 2013-14 school year!

Thunder Fest will also feature three $500 draw prizes that can be won by simply filling in a ballot at the Vikes Nation booth. Get to the game to win! The prize winner’s name will be drawn at half time of the UVic Vikes men’s soccer home opener vs. UBC, also on Sept. 6 at Centennial Stadium. Kick off is at 7:15 p.m. and you must be present at the game to claim your prize.

UVic President & Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jamie Cassels will also be leading the first of a President’s Run Series, encouraging everyone on campus to enjoy an active, healthy living style. Prof. Cassels will choose a route of 4-6 kilometres and the series will start at noon on Sept. 6 from the Student Union Building. All recreation and fitness levels are welcome.

Friday, Sept. 6 FULL SCHEDULE:

12-4:30 p.m. : Thunder Fest (Outside UVic Student Union Building)

12 Noon : Inaugural President’s Run Series (Student Union Building)

7:15 p.m. : Vikes men’s soccer vs. UBC (Centennial Stadium)

9:30p.m. : UVSS Blue & Gold After Party (Felicita’s On-Campus Pub)
