September 2, 2013, Whistler, BC – LifeSport member and tri-athlete Dianne Kaltenegger from Vancouver, BC qualified for Kona last weekend at Ironman Canada! Tackling the new and challenging Whistler course Dianne used a solid swim-bike combo and a 4th fastest run split to finish in 11:39 and 4th in the women’s 50-54 division.
She has earned her spot to Hawaii in her second try at the distance, having finished 10th at IMC last year as a relative novice to triathlon.
This mother of six, grandmother of 5 (almost 7) started the sport in 2011 because it looked like a fun way to spend time after 20 years raising children and working full time and Dianne has discovered her inner competitive spirit and zest for racing. She signed up with LifeSport and started working with coach Lucy Smith last summer and they have crafted her speedy run engine (3:22 and Age Group win at BMO Vancouver marathon this spring) into a strong Ironman athlete. This season she has also garnered a 3rd place at Oliver Half, and two 1st place finishes at Subaru Triathlon Series events in Victoria and Vancouver (Where she was also crowned Canadian 50-54 Age Group Champion).
Dianne is coached by LifeSport coach Lucy Smith. Lucy has coached athletes to podium finishes in Ironman (elite and age group), Olympic distance, Triathlon, Duathlon and distance running. If you are interested in working with Lucy, write Lucy@LifeSportCoaching.com
