Defending Champs UBC Top Men’s Preseason Soccer Poll

September 4, 2013, EDMONTON – Ten months clear of their 2012 Canadian Interuniversity Sport men’s soccer title, the UBC Thunderbirds got a vote of confidence from Canada West coaches, receiving a maximum 10 first-place ballots and 120 voting points in the 2013 preseason coaches’ poll.

UBC was 11-0-3 in conference play one year ago and completed an undefeated year by going 5-0 through the post-season.

With coaches not permitted to vote for their own team, UBC was followed by the Alberta Golden Bears, which picked up the lone remaining top vote, and the Victoria Vikes.

Here are the complete voting results, based on a 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 system (first-place votes in parentheses):

The Canada West men’s soccer season opened with one game on August 31st, when Saskatchewan defeated Winnipeg, and the full schedule of games gets started the weekend of September 6-8.
