September 7, 2013, Edmonton, AB – Tyler Santos made 43 saves for the Edmonton Oil Kings, but the effort was for naught as they fell 2-1 to the Prince George Cougars Saturday night in B.C.

Fighting for the back-up goaltender spot this season, the 19-year-old AJHL veteran from Sherwood Park held the Cougars off the score sheet for 42:27 before Chase Witala broke a scoreless tie early in the third period for the Cougars. Prince George outshot Edmonton 45-29.

David Soltes made it 2-0 with a power-play goal four minutes after Witala tallied. Stephen Shmoorkoff cut the lead in half with 12:06 to play with assists going to Edgars Kulda and Cole Benson, but the Oil Kings offence couldn’t muster another goal to force overtime.

For the second game in a row, referees doled out 100 minutes in penalties, but the teams went a combined 1-17 with the man advantage, with the Oil Kings going 0-10.

Edmonton is now 1-3 in the preseason. They’re in action next on Friday, September 13 when they play the Red Deer Rebels in Lacombe.
