September 7, 2013, Kennewick, WA – The Portland Winterhawks wrapped up their preseason schedule with a 4-2 win Saturday afternoon against the Seattle Thunderbirds in a game played in Kennewick, WA.
The Hawks, playing shorthanded with nine players away at NHL training camps, finish exhibition play with a record of 3-2. The regular season gets underway on Friday, September 20 at the Moda Center against the Prince George Cougars on a night when the team will hoist its WHL championship banner to the rafters.
Portland jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals by Presten Kopeck 3:16 into the game, followed by a power play goal from Chase De Leo at the 18:23 mark.
After a scoreless second period, the Hawks made it 3-0 on a goal by Alex Schoenborn at the 7:48 mark of the third, and followed with a goal by Ethan Price just under two minutes later to make it a 4-0 lead. Jarrod Schamerhorn went the distance in net for the Hawks, stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced.
