Orchard, Zeinstra, Crocker, Wade, & Van Bree Too Hot To Handle

September 8, 2013, Langford, BC – Western Speedway hosted the Island Dwarf Cars, Island Stock Cars, OTRA, SDL Bins I.M.S. 4 Mini Stocks, and the Richlock Rentals Non Wing Sprint Car Series Saturday night with a full program of Trophy Dashes, Heat Races, and Feature events.

Dash wins went to Miles Maxie in the Dwarf Cars, Tom Cinnamon with OTRA, Caleb Van Bree with the Mini Stocks, Kevin Knight with the Stock Cars, and Wade Heckford in the Non Wing Sprint Cars. Heat races wins were captured by Mike Schott in the Dwarf Cars, Dennis Morneau and Jesse Dardengo with OTRA, Gilles Parenteau in the Mini Stock Series, Dave Reside and Brandon Steen with the Stock Cars, and Jeff Bird and Mike Haslam in the Non Wing Sprints.

Tyler Peters and Joey Delorme led nine cars to the green flag for twenty laps of racing in the Dwarf Car Feature event and by lap two Miles Maxie had the lead followed by Ryan Orchard and Delorme. Going down the back stretch on lap four Orchard powered his way to the lead by Maxie and Don Bonaski driving the #24 car. On lap eight, Mike Schott passed for the third spot and set sights on Orchard. There was a good battle with Maxie, Bonaski, and Mike Meeres for positions three through five for several laps while Orchard stretch his lead out front and Schott solidly in second. Orchard continued his hot run and took the chequered flag followed by Schott, Maxie, Meeres, and Bonaski rounding out the top five positions. With his second place finish, Mike Schott captured the Dwarf Car Championship for 2013.

Ryan Orchard Wins Island Dwarf Car Feature event

James Miller and Jeremy Waksel led eleven cars to the green flag for twenty-five laps of racing with the SDL Bins I.M.S. 4 Mini Stocks. By lap two, Miller had the lead followed by Gilles Parenteau and Caleb Van Bree. Parenteau grabbed the lead on lap five followed by Sean Constantine and Alex Mouner. Two laps later, Mouner passed for the lead dropping Parenteau back to second as Caleb Van Bree moved into the third position. On lap eleven Van Bree took the second spot and set his sights on Mouner and two laps later passed Mouner for the lead. On lap twenty-one, Matt Szauer spun around bringing out the yellow flag. On the double file restart, Mouner chose to go to the outside front row and side by side with Van Bree. Van Bree quickly went back to the lead when they dropped the green flag and held off the challengers over the few remaining laps and took the win followed by Mouner, Justin Woodske, Parenteau, and Szauer rounding out the top five positions.

Caleb Van Bree Wins SDL Bins I.M.S. 4 Mini Stock Feature event

Kail Beck had the pole for the start of the OTRA Feature event with his dad Roger on the outside front row and twenty-five laps of racing to decide a winner. Roger got the lead early and by lap nine had George Jenson and Jesse Dardengo behind him. On lap sixteen, James Miller moved into contention taking the fourth spot until he spun out going through turn one and two. This spin did not bring out a yellow as Miller got going in the right direction very quick. By lap twenty, Duane Zeinstra moved into the lead followed by Beck and Jenson after a lot of side by side racing that also included Jesse Dardengo. Zeinstra took the win followed by Roger Beck, Dardengo, Tom Cinnamon, and Larry Joyce rounding out the top five positions. This win gave Zeinstra seven Feature events in a row at Western Speedway if his memory is correct and eight going back to last year.

Daryl Crocker Wins Island Stock Car Feature event

Mark Lockhart and Brendan Moore shared the front row for the start of the Stock Car Feature event with ten cars in the field and thirty-five laps of racing ahead of them. By lap three, Lockhart had the lead followed by Brandon Steen and Dave Reside. By lap five, Daryl Crocker took the fourth spot and was on a charge toward the front. Going down the backstretch, on lap seven, Crocker pulled his car to the inside and went by both Steen and Lockhart with a daring move and came out with the lead. Reside and Steen continued to race side by side behind Crocker trading positions with each lap. By lap ten, Steen was running in second with Kevin Knight moving up to third while Crocker checked out in the lead. By lap twelve, Knight moved into the second spot followed by Steen and Rhett Smith. Steen, Smith, and Reside continued trading positions every lap while Crocker extended his lead over Knight running second. Crocker continued his torrid hot streak taking the win followed by Knight, Smith, Reside, and Steen rounding out the top five positions. Crocker has five Feature event victories so far this season counting his win in Penticton in the Fountain Tire Drivers Challenge and currently holds the points lead in the Championship race with one event left on the calendar.

Lance Wade Wins Richlock Rentals Non Wing Sprint Car Feature event

Fourteen cars made up the field for the start of the Richlock Rentals Non Wing Sprint Car Feature event led by Marc Parkinson, driving the #47 car and running for the Roy Smith Memorial Trophy. By lap two, Parkinson had the lead followed by Tony Johnson and Jeff Bird. Going down the backstretch on lap three, Bird powered his way to the lead followed by Parkinson and Mark Stuart. Behind them Johnson and Lance Wade were in a close battle with Wade trying to move forward. Several drivers were in close and trading spots as Mike Haslam also was looking to challenge up front and was running with Johnson and Wade. On lap ten the yellow came out as Haslam spun around coming out of turn two and Chris Root also needed a push to get going. When the field returned to green flag racing Bird got away and went back to the lead followed by Parkinson and now Lance Wade. By lap fifteen, Wade moved into the second position and started to pressure Bird in the lead and followed by Wayde Heckford and Parkinson. On lap twenty the yellow came out as Tony Johnson spun around. On the restart, they did not complete a lap as the yellow came out again as Johnson spun again but this time could not refire and went into the pits. The yellow came out again before they could complete a lap as Heckford spun his car around after running in third. Laps were beginning to run out as Wade still hounded Bird for the lead. On lap twenty-nine, Wade got a run and went by Bird for the lead and ran to the chequered flag for his first victory in the Non Wing Sprint at Western Speedway. Mike Haslam also got by Bird for the second position with Bird, Parkinson, and Duane Zeinstra rounding out the top five positions. Wade was ecstatic as he was congratulated by several family members and other drivers at Victory Square. He received the Roy Smith Memorial Trophy from Gary, Aaron, and Chuck Smith along with Trophy Girls Winter Rutherford and Willow Webb who presented the Feature event Trophy.

Duane Zeinstra Wins OTRA Feature event

The next event at Western Speedway is scheduled for September 14th and will see the Lordco Auto Parts Demo Series with Demo Trucks, Demo Cars, Mini Figure 8s, and the Bomber Series. The Steve Drane Harley Championship Night for the Stock Cars, Mini Stocks, Non Wing Sprints, OTRA, and the Keg Steakhouse & Bar Driver Challenge Series is scheduled for September 21st. The Farm Credit Canada – Drive Away Hunger Campaign Championship Night for the Demo Series is scheduled for September 28th and will wind up the racing season for 2013.
