September 9, 2013, PARKSVILLE, BC –  Will Deck, a fourth year golfer from Kelowna, BC, posted the lowest two-day total of 140 to capture his first ever tournament win in PACWEST play this past Saturday and Sunday (Sep 7-8) at the Morningstar Golf Course in Parksville, BC.

Notching a hole-in-one on the final Sunday of the 2012 PACWEST season, Will Deck was able to carry that momentum of his from nearly a year ago into the debut tournament of the 2013 season.

On Saturday Deck shot a scorching 68, which would be enough to claim the lowest round in the two-day tournament. He would then carry a four stroke lead into Sunday, where he shot a 72 and held off local golfer Dallas Jones from Vancouver Island who carded a 142 for the two days, two strokes behind him.

Cody Bell was the next best shot over the two days for UBC Okanagan as he carded a 149, good for eighth place.

Bell, a management student from Salmon Arm along with Deck, and second year Michael Lee (77, 83-160) are the three holdovers on the Heat men’s squad from last season. New to the team are Kelowna native, James Casorso (79, 81-160) and Joshua Evans (82, 77-159) from Calgary to round out the five-some that finished tied for third over the weekend, thirteen-strokes behind the leaders (603-590). Fraser Valley and host VIU grabbed the top two spots over the two-day event.

The Heat women, with just two golfers competing at Parskville, finished in fourth place with a two-day total of 375. The team is made entirely of new faces with first year Carolyn Lee finishing three strokes off the pace with a score of 164 (84, 80). Kelsey McGillis finished twelfth as the second female golfer for UBC Okanagan.

The top female golfer was former Heat golfer Jen Woods, Jen has transferred to UFV and won her eighth PACWEST tournament and also led the Cascades to the women’s team title in Parksville.

First year coach for the Heat Cass Hritzuk was extremely pleased with his team in their first weekend of play, noting how great it was for Will Deck to earn the win. Hritzuk was also pleased with the play of Carolyn Lee, his first year golfer from Calgary.

This upcoming weekend (Sep 14-15) the Heat will host the second PACWEST tournament of the year at the Okanagan Golf Club. Saturday will be the first day of competition with the 36 hole tournament finishing up on the Sunday.
