Charleston State Tops Savannah State in Women’s Volleyball Action

September 11, 2013, CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern used a balanced attack to down the Savannah State volleyball team in three sets at the Buc Dome onTuesday evening.


CSU jumped out to a quick 9-1 lead behind seven service points from Siraya Windsor. Out of an SSU timeout, CSU’s Kalyla Klinger recorded two quick kills. SSU senior Bryana Gadis responded with a kill to cut the home teams lead to 11-3.

A 5-0 run from the home team gave them a 15-4 lead midway through the first set. Later, Gadis recorded a service ace to cut the Lady Bucs lead to 20-10.

Out a second timeout, each team closed out the set with three points each. CSU took a 1-0 lead with a 25-12 game win.

In the second set, CSU took a 9-2 lead behind several kills. A kill from Gadis and a CSU error cut the home teams lead to 9-4.

Later a service ace from SSU sophomore Justice Dilworth and a kill from sophomore Bianca Brochu cut the Lady Bucs’ lead to 15-9.

A 6-2 run from CSU put the Lady Bucs up 21-11 towards the end of the second game, prompting an SSU timeout.

The Lady Tigers continued to battle in the final moments with kills from freshman Caitlynn Masoe and Dilworth, but the Lady Bucs offense proved to be too much, as SSU fell 13-25.

Into the third set, the Lady Bucs again jumped out to a big lead early, 10-4, behind several costly SSU errors.

Out of a pause, the Lady Bucs racked up seven more points for a 17-8 advantage behind three kills and several Lady Tiger errors.

Down the stretch of the final set, CSU sealed up the match win with an 8-3 run, capped by a kill from Klinger.

SSU falls to 0-8 on the season after dropping Tuesday’s match. The Lady Bucs improve to 2-6 on the season.

Gadis led the Lady Tigers with six kills and five digs. Senior Asiha Williams led the team in digs with eight. Freshman Alexis Washington recorded seven digs as well.

Klinger led the Lady Bucs with 10 kills, while Meredith Parrott and Windsor each added eight. Katrina Houston added seven kills in the team effort. Windsor led in digs for CSU with 10.
