Canada’s National Volleyball Team Set to Compete at the 2013 Women’s NORCECA Continental Championship

September 13, 2013, Ottawa, ON – Canada’s Women’s National Volleyball team is looking forward to the challenge of the 2013 Women’s NORCECA Continental Championship, next week in Omaha, Nebraska (Sept. 16 to 21).

“We have worked hard in the last five months to prepare for this final tournament of the season,” said Arnd Ludwig, Canada’s women’s head coach. “Although the quality of our game in the last test matches was not what I was expecting, I am sure that we learned a lot and that we go to Omaha fully prepared. If the hard work we’ve done in training translates into a high level of performance, we will have a chance of making it to the semi-finals.”

The NORCECA competition occurs every two years, and only teams in this zone can qualify. In its last appearance in 2011, Canada finished sixth overall. Canada is ranked 23 in the FIVB Senior world rankings.

Winner of the tournament automatically qualifies to the 2013 FIVB Grand Champions Cup in Japan, Nov. 12 to 17. The U.S. team won the event in 2011 in Puerto Rico, and they are currently ranked #2 in the world – the top ranked team at this event.

Participating teams and pools are:

Pool A: Dominican Republic; Trinidad & Tobago, and Costa Rica.

Pool B: USA, Mexico and Cuba.

Pool C: Canada, Puerto Rico and St. Lucia.
