Manitoba U-16 Team Shortlisted

September 14, 2013, Winnepeg, MB (ISN) – Hockey Manitoba is pleased to release the evaluation rosters to name the final candidates for the U-16 provincial team and the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings will be well represented.

The team, which will compete at the Western Canada Challenge Cup in Calgary in October will feture the province’s top 1998 born players.

Five Brandon prospects have been shortlisted by Hockey Manitoba including Nolan Patrick of Winnipeg and Tanner Kaspick of Brandon. They were chosen in the first and second round respectively in this year’s WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary.

Joining them will be Fisher River’s Linden McCorrister, Brandon’s Ty Lewis and Dylan Thiessen of Winnipeg.

The 22-player roster also includes a number of western Manitobans including Blake Jameson of Brandon and Strathclair’s Morgan Geekie, who is the son of former Wheat King blueliner Craig.

A pair of Brandonites are on the U-16 team’s staff, video coach Dennis McNish and equipment manager Scott Hlady. While McNish currently serves as one of the Wheat Kings’ Manitoba scouts, Hlady also serves as Brandon’s equipment manager in the WHL.

Hockey Manitoba will announce the final rosters for the team in early october.
