Getting ready to start the 2013 McGill Invitational cross-country meet on Parc Mont-Royal

MONTREAL – Jessica Porfilio of Longueuil, Que., ended up  11th of 264 runners as the McGill Martlets finished third of 21 teams overall at the McGill invitational cross-country meet on Parc Mont-Royal, Saturday. The third-year nursing major completed the four-kilometre race in 14 minutes, 57 seconds.

The event was won by Western’s Amanda Truelove (14:14) who led the Mustangs to the team title with 26 points. Williams College was second with 42 points, followed by McGill (102), Laval (137), Ottawa (137) and Sherbrooke (170) to round out the top six.

McGill teammates joining Porfilio in the scoring included freshman Georgia Hamilton (16th, 15:08) of Orillia, Ont., junior Jullien Flynn (22nd, 15:15) of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., freshman Emma Normand (26th, 15:19) of Ayers Cliff, Que., and Evelyn Anderson (27th, 15:24), a junior from Calgary.

On the men’s side, McGill finished sixth of 23 teams, led by Alexander Ray, a history junior from Montreal, who completed the 6k race in 19:27, to finish 12th of 298 entries. Laval’s Dany Racine won the individual title in 18:53.

Williams College claimed the team honours, finishing first with 43 points. Laval also scored 43 points but were classified second based on higher placings from the top five scoring runners. Western was third (79), followed by Sherbrooke (104), Ottawa (142) and McGill (152) in the top six.

Other Redmen in the scoring were freshmen Benjamin Forestell (28th, 20:05) of Huntsville, Ont., sophomore Vincent Parent-Pichette (29th, 20:11) of St-Paul de Joliette, Que., junior Michael Abramson (33rd, 20:20) of Westmount, Que., and Ian Richardson (50th, 20:49), a sophomore from Madison, Conn.
