September 15, 2013, Kelowna, BC (ISN) – The Trinity Western women’s volleyball team got off to a good start in the preseason with a pair of four-set wins over UBC Okanagan and Saskatchewan Saturday at UBCO’s Gymnasium.

The Spartans beat Saskatchewan 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 25-22) in a match that started at 10 a.m. and then turned around and beat UBCO 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 25-20) in a 2 p.m. contest.

“In both games, it was a good opportunity for us to use different lineups and see how different combinations work,” said Spartans coach Ryan Hofer. “Everybody got an opportunity to see the floor and perform and do well.

“Against Saskatchewan, we went in a controlled the game. Against UBCO it was great match. Twice we were down 16-8 and Carly Hamilton went on some great serving runs to get us back into the games. Our depth players did an outstanding job. It was a great team effort against UBCO and it was good to fight through some fatigue after having played earlier in the day. We showed a lot of heart today.”

The Spartans will now prepare for the West Coast Classic which will be played Oct. 4-6.
