September 16, 2013, Portland, OR (ISN) – The Winterhawks open the 2013-14 season Friday at the Moda Center at 7 p.m. against the Prince George Cougars with the Konica Minolta Championship Celebration.

Leading up to Friday the team practices daily at the Skating Center from 1:30-3 p.m. through Wednesday, moving over to the Moda Center for practice on Thursday. The week at a glance is attached.

In addition, we will continue to have limited parking passes available for media this season, however we are being asked to give 24 hours notice to the arena for each game- please let me know in advance of each game if you would like to request parking.

Hawks Happenings On The Ice:

• The Hawks open their title defense Friday night with the season opener against the Prince George Cougars at 7 p.m. in the Moda Center. Prior to the game will be the Konica Minolta Championship Celebration as the Hawks look back at last season’s title team and raise the WHL championship banner to the Moda Center’s rafters. The will be looking for their 21 Tickets for the game are going fast, and Hawks fans won’t want to miss out. Tickets are available at winterhawks.com, the Rose Quarter box office and the team’s ticket office inside Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

• Several of the players who left for NHL training camps have returned, as Brendan Burke, Anton Cederholm, Adam de Champlain and Garrett Haar are all back in Portland. Still in NHL training camps are Oliver Bjorkstrand (Columbus), Taylor Leier (Philadelphia), Brendan Leipsic (Nashville), Nic Petan (Winnipeg) and Derrick Pouliot (Pittsburgh). Petan and Pouliot have already suited up in preseason games, while Leier and Leipsic are scheduled to do so tonight.

Hawks Happenings Off The Ice:

• There will be two chances for fans to meet Hawks players this week. Tonight fans can attend the live edition of the season premiere of Hockey Talk on KPAM AM 860 from 6 – 7 p.m. at Nicoli’s Grill & Sports Bar, 17880 SW McEwan Road in Lake Oswego. GM & Head Coach Mike Johnston will be on location, as will Chase De Leo and Josh Hanson. Fans will also be able to get their picture taken with the Ed Chynoweth Cup.

Then on Wednesday Adam de Champlain, Shaun MacPherson, Joe Mahon and Shane McColgan will be signing autographs from 4 – 6 p.m. at the Les Schwab located at 11804 NE 78th Way in Vancouver.
