Subway Atlantic University Sport Athletes of the Week

September 17, 2013 (ISN) –  John Kuto of the Saint Mary’s Huskies men’s cross country team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 15, 2013.


A first-year Huskie in his second year of eligibility, the criminology student from Eldoret, Kenya secured a first-place win at the first AUS cross country invitational meet of the season hosted by St. Thomas and UNB at Odell Park in Fredericton, N.B.

With a time of 26:01 in the 8km race, Kuto finished seven seconds ahead of second-place finisher Scott Donald from StFX and thirty seconds ahead of Moncton’s Jérémie Pellerin, who came in third.

Kuto, who has lived in Halifax just two years, was also the winner of the Blue Nose Half-Marathon this past May with a time of 1:09:42.

Kristy McGregor-Bales of the defending AUS champion Dalhousie Tigers women’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 15, 2013.

A third-year defender and recreation management student from Ottawa, Ont., McGregor-Bales led the Tigers in back-to-back wins this past weekend, earning Subway Player of the Game honours in both games.

She was integral to the Tigers in keeping the Saint Mary’s offence at bay in their 5-0 win on Saturday. She then notched the Tigers’ lone goal in a 1-0 defeat of the Mount Allison Mounties on Sunday.
