September 18, 2013, Edmonton, AB (ISN) – The 2012 Canada West women’s rugby champion University of Alberta Pandas narrowly edged the Calgary Dinos in a conference-wide coaches’ poll ranking teams in order entering the new season.

With coaches not permitted to vote for their own school, Alberta picked up three of five first-place votes at 18 points, two ahead of Calgary, which claimed the remaining two first-place votes. Lethbridge, which saw its streak of six consecutive Canada West titles end in 2012, placed third in the poll.

Here are the complete voting results, based on a 5-3-2-1 system (first-place votes in parentheses):

Alberta 18 (3)

Calgary 16 (2)

Lethbridge 10

Victoria 7

A complete Canada West preview will be released on Thursday and the women’s rugby season opens with three games on the Sept. 20-22 weekend as all five teams take the pitch.
