September 18, 2013, Prince George, BC (ISN) – After a perfect 5-0 record in the preseason, the Prince George Cougars officially kick off their 20th anniversary season this weekend on Friday, September 20th in Portland.

The Cougars Southbound trip will also include stops in Everett (Saturday, September 21st) and Tri-City (Sunday, September 22nd).

Following this weekend’s trip to Portland, Everett and Tri-City, the Prince George Cougars will be hosting their home opener on Friday, September 27th at 7:00 PM against the Kamloops Blazers.

The evening kicks off with the Cougars annual Tailgate Party outside CN Centre, which will run from 5:00pm – 7:00pm. There will be live entertainment, with country music artist and Prince George’s own Rick Stavely hitting the stage to entertain fans. Save On Foods will be selling hotdogs with all proceeds going to Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Big Brothers Big Sisters will be face painting and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Canadian Blood Services, JDC West, The Salvation Army, Moxie’s and the Canadian Cancer Society will also have booths set up during the tailgate party.

“We will have something for everybody at our pre-game Tailgate Party,” said Prince George Cougars Vice President Brandi Brodsky. “Opening night at the CN Centre is always electric with the excitement and anticipation of the new season , and it all starts with the Tailgate Party.”

To help celebrate 20 years in Prince George, the Cougars will wear special commemorative Opening Night jerseys which will then be auctioned off online during the month of October. Fans will be able to submit bids until Thursday, October 24th at Noon Pacific Time on the Prince George Cougars website: Proceeds from the commemorative jersey auction will go towards The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

The Cougars are pleased to confirm that we will have a very special guest in attendance opening night. Prince George Cougars captain Clayton Catellier (1994-1995) will drop the puck during an opening faceoff ceremony.

“We are so pleased that Clayton has been able to clear his schedule to make the trip back to Prince George to help us celebrate our 20th season” comments Brodsky. “Clayton moved to Prince George with us after having played for the team in Victoria, and he was a huge part of our organization. His heart, enthusiasm and dedication to the Cougars is still remembered by our fans.”

We will also be announcing the total dollar amount raised during the Second Annual Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament that was held earlier this summer.

Brodsky adds, “We will be celebrating 20-years in Prince George throughout the entire 2013-2014 season with fun events and promotions for our fans. We’re so excited to reveal the commemorative jerseys on Opening Night.”

Fans can also look forward to the first intermission Lobster races courtesy of Save On Foods. The contestants will take home their lobster and winners will also receive tickets to Great Big Sea on Thursday, October 24th courtesy of the CN Centre.
