September 19, 2013, Brandon, MB (ISN) – The Brandon Wheat Kings are excited to announce event details for the club’s 2013 Home Opener, presented by The Brandon Sun, this Saturday, September 21st at Westman Communications Group Place against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.

While there are plenty of tickets remaining for Saturday’s opener, they are moving quickly! Western Manitoba hockey fans can purchase at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at wheatkings.com

Game time Saturday is 7:30pm, with the doors scheduled to open at 6:30pm. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a Wheat Kings Glow Stick.

As well, the Keystone Centre in association with 94.7 Star FM, Sysco Foods and Molson will be hosting a special pre-game Tailgate Party in the Convention Hall from 4-7:15pm. In addition to some great food and drink, music will be provided by The Ukadians, a British Invasion Rock band. In addition to the entertainment, there will also be a kids area with games, inflatables and several mascots, including Willie.

Fans can also show their colours as face painting will be provided by the Wheat Kings Precision Toyota Game Night staff prior to puck drop.

Those in attendance will want to get to their seats early as the 2013-14 edition of the Wheat Kings will be introduced during a special pre-game show inside Westman Place.

Performing the ceremonial opening face-off Saturday night will be one of the longest serving presidents of any sports organization in Manitoba. After spending seventeen of the last 20 years as President of Hockey Brandon, Glen Parker, recently announced his resignation.

A Hockey Manitoba Director for Brandon for the past twelve years, Parker has coached 24 youth teams over the years and has served as an on ice official for the past thirteen.

“I believe we all have to volunteer to do something or we should,” Parker recently told reporters. “I’ve always enjoyed hockey and enjoyed talking about hockey. There’s the downside to it too in dealing with some of the unpleasant issues but when you see the kids enjoying the game and you see the kids in their Timbits stuff and at the rink dragging their bags and stuff, it seems to make it worthwhile.”

Hockey in Brandon has excelled under Parker’s tenure and many of the players that he has worked with over the years have graduated to the major junior and National Hockey League ranks. In fact, the Wheat Kings open up the regular season this weekend with three former AAA Midget Wheat Kings on their active roster – Tyler Coulter, Duncan Campbell and Brett Kitt.

Meanwhile the hockey club is pleased to announce that the National anthem will be sung by award winning Canadian country singer / songwriter Jess Moskaluke.

A Tyler Ward Featured Artist, Jess recently rocked the stage on a 45-city tour with his camp throughout North America.

When she’s not on the road touring she splits her time between Canada and the U.S., writing in Nashville. More recently, she was chosen to represent Canada and peform at last summer’s Country Music Association (CMA) Global Artist Party to help kick off CMA Fest 2012.
