September 20, 2013, Kelowna, BC (ISN) – The Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team started the 2013-14 Canada West pre-season off with a five set (26-24, 19-25, 25-19, 23-25,15-9) victory over the University of Alberta Golden Bears Thursday night in Kelowna, B.C.

“It was a really good first game of the season and was as well-played as a first game of the season can be,” commented TWU head coach Ben Josephson. “All three of our outside hitters, Ryan Slater, Brad Kufske and Nick Del Bianco, played really well with pretty good overall play by everyone. Brad Kufske was probably our man-of-the-match with a great job out of the gate. Proud of all of them and will change things up when we see the Bears again tomorrow night.”

The Spartans will continue their annual Okanagan tour with Alberta tomorrow night at Princess Margaret High School in Penticton, B.C. Match time is set for 7 p.m. PST.

TWU kicks off the 2013-14 Canada West season on Oct. 25 when they will host the University of British Columbia at 8 p.m. PST at the Langley Events Centre.

This is the ninth year that the Spartans and the Golden Bears have kicked off the Canada West/CIS preseason with a tour through British Columbia’s Okanagan.
