University of Ottawa
September 20, 2013, Ottawa, ON (ISN) – The undefeated Gee-Gees women’s rugby team will be back on the road this weekend, making the trip to the University of Montreal where they will try to improve their record to 4-0 versus the Carabins.
Despite playing two of their first three games on the road this season the no. 10 ranked Gee-Gees have managed to stay focused and most importantly play sound defensively. The garnet and grey have given up only 40 points in three games this season which tops the RSEQ in points allowed for teams having played three games.
The Carabins hold down a record of 1-2 this season with losses versus and McGill and Laval along with a win versus Bishop’s. They were handed a 35-12 loss by the McGill Martlets last weekend and will be looking to get back in the winning column this Saturday versus uOttawa.
“We have been working on technicalities this week. That way if everyone knows their job and what is expected of them, we can keep track of who is losing focus throughout the game,” said Gee-Gees head coach Jennifer Boyd. “I think since this team is not exactly used to being in first position it is important to take things week-by-week in order to remain focused on our goals.”
Paulina Karwowski received player of the game honours for her performance in uOttawa’s win over the Sherbrooke Vert et Or last weekend. The Gee-Gees routed Sherbrooke 37-5 on home turf, however coach Boyd noted a lack of focus in her team at times. “If we are going to beat top tier teams we will need to keep our focus through 80 minutes and not let up. That is what we are trying to focus on as we go deeper into the season and towards the playoffs.”
The Gee-Gees will take to the field in Montreal at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.
