September 24, 2013 (ISN) – Receiver Sabastian Robinson of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 22, 2013.

Robinson, a 5-foot-10, first-year business student from Saskatoon, Sask., scored his first two career AUS touchdowns in Friday’s 40-11 road victory over the conference-leading StFX X-Men.

His two touchdowns included an 11-yard reception for a score in the first quarter and a 19-yard major in the third.

Defensive halfback Brett Backman of the Acadia University Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Football Defensive Player of the Week.

A fifth-year business student in his fourth year of eligibility hailing from Tantallon, N.S., Backman had the highlight game of his career with three interceptions, including a 68-yard return for the last touchdown of the game.

Backman had 95 yards in interception returns, one broken up pass and four tackles (two solo and two assisted) in the Axemen’s 40-11 win over StFX.

Defensive Player of the Week

Position: Defensive Halfback

Hometown: Tantallon, N.S.

Year of eligibility: Fourth

Academic program: BA

Height and weight: 5’10”, 190lbs

Wide receiver and punter Kyle McLean of the Mount Allison Mounties Men is the Atlantic University Sport Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

McLean, a third-year geography student from Nepean, Ont., had 12 punts for 402 total yards, averaging 33.5 yards per punt in the Mounties’ 29-15 win over the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Friday.

McLean’s longest punt was for 46 yards and one of his punts was also downed inside the 20-yard line in Mount Allison’s first win of the season.
