September 24, 2013, Everett, WA (ISN) – The Silvertips started the season in style Saturday night, rocking the Prince George Cougars 8-3 for their largest winning margin in a home opener in team history.
A hat trick from Josh Winquist helped the ‘Tips score eight goals in a game for the first time since October 2009 and get off to a 1-0 start for the year. Now the Silvertips will head North of the border for their first road game of the season Friday night against the Vancouver Giants at 7:30. Roster Gets a Boost x2
Two NHL-signed players will accompany Everett to Vancouver on Friday after the returns of Mirco Mueller and Jujhar Khaira from their NHL clubs. Mueller signed his entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks on Sunday before being re-assigned to the Silvertips for his second year with the team. Khaira is practicing with the ‘Tips today after being assigned to Everett by the Edmonton Oilers and could make his WHL debut vs. the Giants just down the road from his hometown of Surrey, BC. Unfortunately the Silvertips were forced to part ways with forward Waltteri Hopponen yesterday to reach the CHL limit of two import players (Mueller and Ivan Nikolishin). With the ‘Tips roster now taking shape, one difficult decision remains: trimming one of their four overage players by Oct. 15.
