UPEI Athletics and Recreation announce Athletes of the Week

September 26, 2013, Charlottetown, PEI — UPEI Athletics and Recreation announced the UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for the week of September 16–22.

UPEI Athletics and Recreation showcases these talented athletes to recognize their hard work and dedication to their respective sports throughout the seasons. UPEI Athletes of the Week are also nominated to Atlantic University Sport and Canadian Interuniversity Sport for possible mention in the region and/or country.

Who: Katherine Koughan, Women’s Field Hockey and Chris Desousa, Men’s Hockey

What: UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week

When: Week of September 16–22

Why: During the first Atlantic University Field Hockey Tournament, Koughan played with poise and confidence controlling the play from the sweeper position. Her calm confidence with the ball settled the play and created many offensive opportunities for her teammates. Koughan dribbled the ball through many defenders to score her first goal of the season. She played a major role in both defensive and offensive penalty corners. On the offensive side, she was the stick stopper and helped the team score multiple times on offensive penalty corner chances. Koughan is a second-year student from Stratford and is enrolled in the bachelor of business administration program.

Desousa had a strong performance during the Men’s Hockey three-game road trip, scoring three goals with two including the over-time winner in a 4-3 win over UQTR. Desousa is a third-year student from Mississauga, Ontario and is enrolled in the bachelor of business administration program.
