OTTAWA – Delegates from coast to coast will assemble in Ottawa this weekend for Swimming Canada’s 104th Annual General Meeting.

Dozens of representatives of the Canadian swimming community are expected to gather for the event in the nation’s capital on Friday and Saturday.

The Holiday Inn & Suites, Ottawa Downtown will host the AGM as Swimming Canada reviews the first year in the quadrennial and looks ahead on the road towards the 2016 Olympic & Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Sessions will include a presentation from new CEO Ahmed El-Awadi on the “Performing Sport Organization.” High Performance Director John Atkinson will also be attending his first Swimming Canada AGM. Atkinson, who led Canada to four medals at the recent FINA World Championships in Barcelona, will present on World Class Performance. Longtime para-swimming coach Craig McCord will also present, fresh off Canada’s 16-medal performance as host of the 2013 IPC Swimming World Championships in Montreal.

Several annual awards will be handed out, including the Swimming Canada Volunteer of the Year Award, Swimming Canada Volunteer Contribution Award, Ken Filippelli Award of Excellence in Officiating, and Swimming Canada’s President’s Award.

On Saturday at the Annual General Meeting, the membership will also be voting to elect five board positions from a list of candidates that includes both incumbents as well as new faces. These five individuals will join the nine-person Board of Directors for 2013-14. For further information:
