September 26, 2013, VICTORIA – The next noon-hour run with President Jamie Cassels and other campus community members will be held Thursday, Oct. 3.
Whether you already run with friends on campus, want to get outdoors for a mid-day break or want to feel energized for the afternoon, you are welcome to participate in the event, hosted the Vikes Athletics and Recreation Department.
This is the third run since Sept. 6, which has drawn students, faculty and staff for an informal run of four to six kilometres. People start from the Student Affairs Plaza, between the McKinnon Gym and UVic Bookstore, and sort themselves into smaller groups along the route according to their pace.
“I have taken part in both of the president’s runs and found them to be a great opportunity to reconnect with campus running friends and to meet other staff members for the first time. Runners can always find something to chat about,” says Elaine Miller, executive administrative assistant in the office of the vice-president finance and operations.
Cassels initiated the run to support recreation and healthy living on campus and to interact with students, faculty and staff while enjoying physical exercise. People of all fitness levels are invited to participate.
Vikes recreation staff and volunteers lead a warm-up and offer a fitness tip at the start of each run, and ensure people are accompanied on the route.
Date of future runs will be posted on UVic’s event calendar as well as at vikesrec.ca and govikesgo.com.
