September 29, 2013, Trail, BC – West Kelowna’s hot streak continued on Saturday, on the wings of a 5-3 victory in Trail. Jordan Masters led the way for the visitors, notching two goals and an assist to earn first star honours.
Liam Blackburn was named the third star of the evening, in part thanks to his third period goal which held up as the winner.
Leading 3-2 after the second period, the Warriors were able to hang on for the win despite a frantic push from the hosts.
”They came hard” West Kelowna netminder Andy Desautels admitted after the game. ”We just stood our ground, and made sure we got pucks out and pucks deep.”
Desautels made 24 saves on the evening, and has played every minute during the Tribe’s current winnings streak.
The Saskatchewan native also says he’s excited for the promise the Warriors are showing early in the season. Èverything’s going right right now” Desautels grins. ”We’ve got a lot of skill, but our skill is working hard” he says, adding ”We’re going to be tough to play against every night.”
In addition to the Masters (2) and Blackburn goals, the Warriors got tallies from Jason Cotton and David Pope.
Travis Stephens, Jake Lucchini, and Bryce Knapp responded for Trail. Dustin Nikkel replaced Smoke Eaters starting goalie Adam Todd midway through the third period after an injury forced Todd from the game. Nikkel ends up suffering the loss, after allowing one goal (Blackburn) on four shots.
West Kelowna makes a Coastal road-trip next weekend, with stops in Powell River, Nanaimo, and Cowichan Valley.
