October 1, 2013 – LANGLEY, British Columbia – For the first time in school history, the Trinity Western men’s cross country team is ranked in the CIS Top 10, with the Spartans slotting in at No. 9 in the first poll of the season.

Meanwhile, following a 4-0 win over UNBC Friday, the TWU women’s soccer team sits at No. 10 in the fifth poll of year. Neither the Spartans women’s cross country team nor the men’s soccer team were ranked.

The Spartans cross country teams opened their seasons Sept. 14 at the University of Washington Sundodger Invitational, where second-year Joel De Schiffart (Nanaimo, B.C.) led the way on the men’s side and Sara Inglis (Falkirk, Scotland), who won the open race, crossed the finish line first amongst the TWU women.

Both teams will compete in the Western Washington Classic Invitational in Bellingham, Wash. Oct. 12.

On the pitch, the women’s soccer team improved its record to 2-1-3 with a road win over UNBC, but nonetheless, the Spartans fell from No. 7 to No. 10 in the latest rankings. The Spartans return to Langley’s Rogers Field this weekend when they will host Winnipeg Friday and Manitoba Saturday. Both games are at 5 p.m. and can be seen at twu.canadawest.tv.

The men’s soccer team (1-6-1) earned a 0-0 draw at home, with then-No. 4 Alberta Friday before losing 3-1 to Saskatchewan Saturday. The Spartans will have the next week off before hosting Mount Royal Oct. 11 and Winnipeg Oct. 12. Both games are at 7 p.m. and can be seen at twu.canadawest.tv.
