October 7, 2013. Central Saanich, BC – Kimanda Jarzebiak, Chair of the Boulders Climbing Gym, is pleased to welcome coach Andrew Wilson and guest coach Chelsea Rude (from USA Climbing) to The Boulders Climbing Gym.

Andrew Wilson spent ten years as the Head Coach of Canada’s National Climbing Team and is coming on board at The Boulders to be the Head Coach of the Youth Team, Head Route Setter for the Gym and to spearhead a Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model for sport climbing.

The Boulders youth programs, which will be pilot programs for the development of the LTAD model, are based on the LTAD stages of athletic development outlined by Sport Canada and Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L)(See http://www.canadiansportforlife.ca/coaches/ltad-stages for details).

Wilson will be assisted in this endeavour by other Boulders coaches, including Boulders Manager Sebastian Powell and Assistant Manager Stephen Anderson. He will also be assisted by a series of guest coaches, including USA Climbing’s Chelsea Rude, who is the first of a number of coaches that will make their way to The Boulders this season under a climber exchange with other countries.

Rude, who hails from Boulder, Colorado and who began climbing with her father in 1998 at a gym in Atlanta, is a veteran of the climbing circuit, having competed in over 100 competitions and having travelled to Europe and Asia to compete at the world level. Most recently she was in Victoria as an assistant coach and team manager of the USA Youth Climbing Team that participated in the IFSC World Youth Climbing Championships that were held in August.

In addition to assisting Wilson with the Youth Team and the LTAD program while she is here, Rude will be working a few times a week with students from the Stelly’s Secondary School Climbing Academy, as well as staying in shape by using The Boulders facility for her own training purposes.

Other guest coaches scheduled to attend The Boulders under the Exchange Program will include world renowned Czech Speed Climber Libor Hroza who will be here in November.
