October 6, 2013, Hamilton, ON—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s basketball team got a taste of what Ontario University basketball was like this weekend. (Oct 4-6).
The WolfPack played three OUA schools in pre season play this weekend. On Sunday (Oct 6), they fell 84-60 to the Brock University Badgers.
“We started out running our offense and hitting shots but then fatigue set in,” said WolfPack head coach Scott Reeves.
The WolfPack trailed 23-18 after the first quarter and were down 44-29 at the half.
TRU was led again by Kassie Colonna (2nd year, forward, Invermere, BC). She had 17 points and six rebounds in 36 minutes of court time.
Two rookies: Ryan Kennedy (1st year, forward, Airdrie, AB) had nine points while Syd Williams (1st year, guard, Langley, BC) had seven points.
“These games have bene good for us to get used to some travel and the competition was great,” Reeves added. ” Now, we need to regroup and work on some things from this weekend in order to get ready for our home tournament next weekend.”
The WolfPack host the University of Northern British Columbia Thunderbirds, Trinity Western Spartans and the University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat beginning Friday October 11 th at the Tournament Capital Centre.
TRU has its 2013-14 Canada West home opener on Friday November 1st at the TCC against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. Tip off is 6 pm. The proceeds from the gate go to the CIBC Run for the Cure.
