October 7, 2013, VICTORIA, B.C. (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team had an exciting finish to win the 2013 Canada Wets University Golf Championship hosted by the University of Alberta in Eureka, Mont.
Second-year Sean Hay finished off Alberta’s Jace Barros in a one-hole playoff to lift the Vikes in the four-team tournament.
The Vikes men finished 306-296 in two rounds with a total score of 602, while the Golden Bears forced the tie with a two-round score of 303-299. Hay took the overall individual title with a score of 142 (74-68), six strokes ahead of Alberta’s Alex Rakowski, Sam DiPinto and Barros who all finished with 148.
Second-year Vike Jesse Teron finished fifth overall with a score of 152 (77-75), while Bruce Tomie finished ninth with a score of 155 (79-76). Also competing for the Vikes wasConnor Gann, who finished 11th (156) and Eric Praught who finished 16th (160).
After two rounds, the Golden Bears and Vikes were tied at 602 sending both Hay and Barros to a playoff. Barros lipped out on his final putt while Hay sunk his three-footer to lift the Vikes to their first Canada West University Golf title.
Up next the Vikes gearing up for the annual Vikes Shootout hosted next week, Oct. 14-15, at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria.
