FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Melissa Hardy-2013-Name: Melissa Hardy

University: St. Francis Xavier University

Sport: Women’s Cross Country

Hometown: Deer Lake, N.L.

Year of eligibility: Third

Academic program: Integrated Dietetic Internship

Height: 5’3″

Melissa Hardy of the St. Francis Xavier women’s cross country team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 6, 2013.

A fifth-year integrated dietetic internship student in her third year of eligibility from Deer Lake, N.L., Hardy was the winner of the women’s 6km race at this past weekend’s Saint Mary’s/Dalhousie Invitational cross country meet.

Her time of 21:59 was good enough to beat out 71 other runners from eight AUS schools and help the X-Women to a second-place team finish.

Hardy was also the winner of the UNB/St. Thomas Invitational meet Sept. 14 and came in second at the StFX Invitational Sept. 21.

Cole MacMillan-2013-

Name: Cole MacMillan

University: University of Prince Edward Island

Sport: Men’s Soccer

Position: Striker

Hometown: Stanhope, P.E.I.

Year of eligibility: Third

Academic program: BA

Height: 5’11”

Cole MacMillan of the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers men’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Oct. 6, 2013.

A second-year arts student in his third year of eligibility from Stanhope, P.E.I., MacMillan scored five goals in three games this past week to give the Panthers their first three wins of the season.

MacMillan scored the first of two team goals in UPEI’s 2-1 win over AUS No. 3 ranked Moncton on Wednesday. He then contributed the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 2-1 victory over the Memorial Sea-Hawks.

He followed these performances up Sunday by scoring three of UPEI’s four goals against Memorial in their 4-0 win.

Offensive Player of the Week

Tivon Cook-2013-Name: Tivon Cook

University: St. Francis Xavier University

Position: Quarterback

Hometown: Scarborough, Ont.

Year of eligibility: Second

Academic program: BA

Height and weight: 5’10”, 171lbs

Quarterback Tivon Cook of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 6, 2013.

Cook, a 5-foot-10, second-year arts student from Scarborough, Ont., threw three touchdown passes in the X-Men’s 30-9 Homecoming victory over the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday.

He completed 26-of-36 pass attempts for 274 yards with no interceptions.


Defensive Player of the Week

Sanmi Adereti-2013-Name: Sanmi Adereti

University: St. Francis Xavier University

Position: Linebacker

Hometown: Brampton, Ont.

Year of eligibility: Fifth

Academic program: BA

Height and weight: 6’2″, 220lbs

Linebacker Sanmi Adereti of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport Football Defensive Player of the Week.

A third-year arts student in his fifth year of eligibility hailing from Brampton, Ont., Adereti had nine tackles (seven solo and four assisted) in StFX’s 30-9 Homecoming victory over the Mount Allison Mounties.

His nine tackles included four tackles for a loss of 18 yards, two of which were sacks, for a combined loss of 15 yards.

Adereti is currently seventh overall in AUS tackles with 30.5 on the season and third in sacks with 5.5.


Special Teams Player of the Week

Michael Bohan-2013-Name: Michael Bohan

University: Mount Allison University

Position: Defensive Back

Hometown: Sackville, N.B.

Year of eligibility: Second

Academic program: BSc Chemistry

Height and weight: 6’1″, 200lbs

Defensive back Michael Bohan of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Football Special Teams Player of the Week.

Bohan, a second-year chemistry student from Sackville, N.B., had 10 punt returns for 210 yards, including a 78-yard punt return for a touchdown in the Mounties’ 30-9 loss to the StFX X-Men on Saturday. His 210 yards are a Mount Allison school record and are the second most punt return yards by and individual in a single game in AUS history. This is just 10 yards shy of the all-time conference record of 220 yards set by Acadia’s Scott Crichton in 1972.

His stats also included four kickoff returns for 78 yards for an average of 19.5 yards per return.

In addition to his impressive stats on special teams, Bohan also had five assisted tackles on defence.
