Alberta soccer teams compete at National Club Championships

October 9, 2013, ALBERTA (ISN) – The Canadian Soccer Association’s National Club Championships begin from Coast to Coast today featuring 10 teams representing Alberta. Teams qualified for this competition as a result of finishing first, or second in some cases, at Alberta Soccer’s Provincial Championships earlier this summer.

Over 2,700 players, staff and officials from across the country will be participating in the Championships that kick off today and run through to Monday October 14. The club teams representing Alberta include the following:

U14 Cup (Lethbridge, AB)

  • Boys: Foothills 99 Boys (Provincial Champions) and Inter 99 Boys
  • Girls: SWU Napoli (Provincial Champions) and Blizzard Ajax

U16 Cup (Kamloops, BC)

  • Boys: Foothills 97 Boys
  • Girls: SWU Premiers

U18 Cup (St. John’s, NL)

  • Boys: Edmonton Warriors
  • Girls: Blizzard Juventus

Challenge Trophy (Men’s) and Jubilee Trophy (Women’s) (Halifax, NS)

  • Challenge: Edmonton Scottish
  • Jubilee: Edmonton Victoria

In addition to the ten club teams competing, the Lethbridge Soccer Association, a District Member of the Alberta Soccer Association (ASA) is also playing host to the U14 Cup after successfully hosting the U16 Cup in 2011. “The U14 Cup represents some of the most promising players that Canada has to offer to the “Beautiful Game” and the ASA is very excited to host the top clubs from every corner of our country,” said Alberta Soccer President Ole Jacobsen.
