October 9, 2013, OTTAWA (CIS) – Soccer players Emily Brown from Wilfrid Laurier University and Cole MacMillan from the University of Prince Edward Island are the Canadian Interuniversity Sport female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 6, 2013.

Brown, a third-year business major from Waterloo, Ont., exploded for seven goals in two games over the weekend to climb to second place in OUA conference scoring with 11 markers in as many matches. Last Friday, the talented forward accounted for all of the Golden Hawks scoring in a 5-0 win over crosstown rival Waterloo to set a school record for most goals in a game. She netted two more on Sunday in a 4-0 shutout against Windsor to help the Hawks (6-2-3) move to within two points of first place in the OUA West standings.

Melissa Hardy, a cross-country runner from St. Francis Xavier, and soccer players Victoria Muccilli of McGill and Kelti Biggs of Alberta were also nominated for the women’s award.

MacMillan, a second-year arts student from Stanhope, P.E.I., found the back of the net in three consecutive contests to lead the Panthers (3-3-3) to their first three wins of the regular season. The 5-foot-11 striker, who finished the three-match set with five markers and a pair of game-winners, scored once last Wednesday in a 2-1 upset of third-place Moncton, once more on Saturday in a 2-1 defeat of Memorial, and then registered a hat trick on Sunday in a 4-0 shutout victory, also against Memorial.
